The path from study to your first job<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Study:<\/strong> A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, control engineering or mechatronics is the usual route to the title \u201cengineer\u201d. If you prefer the technician route, you will find technical diplomas in electrical, electronics and mechatronics programmes at technical colleges and institutes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Professional registration:<\/strong> In many Arab countries you can only practise under the title \u201cengineer\u201d after registering with the engineers' syndicate or council, so learn your country's requirements, register early and keep your registration up to date.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hands-on experience while studying:<\/strong> Make the most of your co-op training and choose a place with real machines, not just an office. What do you do?\u201d The interviewer wants ordered steps: safety first, then the drawing, then measurement, then the program.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Safety:<\/strong> Isolating and locking out energy before work (LOTO), and emergency-stop circuits.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Technical English:<\/strong> Most manuals and software are in English, so get used to reading them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Certificates: which are worth your money?<\/h2>\n<p>Hands-on experience matters more than any piece of paper, but some certificates open doors: manufacturers' PLC programming certificates (such as Siemens' official SITRAIN courses), maintenance and reliability certificates such as CMRP if you are heading into maintenance, and project management certificates such as PMP if you later move into managing automation projects.<\/p>\n<h2>If you are in Saudi Arabia<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Professional accreditation:<\/strong> The Engineering Professions Practice Law allows no one to practise any engineering profession without professional accreditation from the Saudi Council of Engineers, covering the engineer, specialist and technician categories.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Technician route:<\/strong> In the 1447 AH training year, the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) started a \u201cRobotics and Artificial Intelligence Technology\u201d programme at three colleges in Abha, Riyadh and Jeddah.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Demand:<\/strong> The National Industrial Strategy aims for about 36,000 factories by 2035, and the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources launched the Future Factories Program to move thousands of factories to automation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Certificates:<\/strong> Before you pay, check the professional certificates support programme of the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF, Hadaf); it may reimburse the cost of an accredited certificate on its list.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"kb-engineer-note\">\n<p><strong>An engineer's view<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What sets a new engineer apart is not the number of certificates but how they think when a fault happens: do they read the drawing, measure and rule out possibilities calmly, or swap parts at random?
